Conservation Volunteer Day February 2019

The Friends held a great conservation day on the Common at the end of February, supported by TCV (The Conservation Volunteers).
A good number of local volunteers were there- encouraged by the bright early Spring sunshine.
We planted about 75 water loving indigenous plants on the new scrape. These plants were funded by a donation from the Friends.
We also spread out all the remaining wood chips.  This year the paths are quite dry and we were able to cover a large area.
Some of the TCV volunteers also cleared the duckweed and wood from the pond, which is now looking healthy and full of frogs and frog spawn.  So all in all a good day’s work.
If you would like to get involved in conservation activities on Palewell Common keep an eye on the Friends’ website for dates or sign up to be a Friend and receive emails.
